What is a gallon?

A large amount used to measure liquid. One gallon is about four and a half litres.

For example

The water drum holds ten gallons, about forty five litres.

In Grade 6

Children compare a gallon container against litre bottles to feel the difference.

Watch out for

Children often treat a gallon as the same as four litres. It is closer to four and a half litres.
