Grade 3

What is a factor?

factor

A number that divides into another number with nothing left over.

For example

Five is a factor of 20 because four fives make 20 exactly.

In Grade 3

Children arrange counters into equal rows and record every arrangement that works with none left over.

Watch out for

Children often forget that one and the number itself are factors too. Every number has at least those two.

Say it at home

Take twelve small objects and find every way to share them into equal rows.
